Description:
1) ASSESSMENT:
- Acts as resource to other staff members during the assessment of complex patient/family needs.
- Assists other staff members in improving their knowledge and skills, giving input when needs are identified.
- Assesses the need for suitable staff development program/s in the assigned clinical area to ensure effective patient care.
2) PLANNING:
- A. Serves as direct care clinical resource in developing, coordinating, and reviewing the patient’s plan of care.
3) IMPLEMENTATION/INTERVENTIONS:
- Provides total, direct nursing care to patients requiring advanced, skilled or complex care.
- Precepts new hires and nursing interns and mentors nursing staff with identified needs.
- Completes specific competencies as identified by supervisor.
- Responds to age specific life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocols such as Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support & Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- Monitors patient’s vital signs pre, during and post procedures with or without Moderate/Deep procedural sedation.
- Administers Intravenous medications as per clinician’s orders, monitors vitals and response to the medication.
- Monitors patient for adverse outcomes, reports them and intervenes appropriately.
- Ensures relevant education and instructions are completed prior to discharge.
- Discharges the patient to the care of the escort to ensure safety of the patient.
- Transcribes physician's orders and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Assists clinicians with the more complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Performs procedures requiring advanced competency skills or training in the expanded nursing roles.
