Description:
The position will be part of Bechtel’s NEOM Project Execution Team and will be based in the Sharma, KSA. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and will report to the project’s Geotechnical Engineering Lead or their designee. They will also liaise with and manage other geotechnical engineers/engineering geologists assigned to the Project Execution and Design Review Teams, and will liaise with Bechtel’s functional geotechnical manager or their designee. The role will also include communication on geotechnical issues with the project team and the client during engineering and construction of the project.
In this role you will plan, coordinate and manage geotechnical investigations and geotechnical designs for excavations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining systems, foundations, roads, bridges, buildings, tunnels and dams. You will also provide oversight of field construction activities related to geotechnical engineering for such structures including reviews of construction method statements, field acceptance testing and geological mapping of ground conditions.
Major Responsibilities
- Reviews and implements project plans, standard engineering details and specifications for constructability and conformance to regulatory requirements and productivity improvement.
- Recommends and implements changes in design or construction methods.
- Reviews conceptual studies, designs, reports, proposals, value engineering studies or alternate technical concepts in accordance with Engineering Procedures.
- Prepare essential contractual documents such as Scope of Work, Request for Proposal and White Papers.
- Reviews scope of works and technical specifications for field investigation works and geotechnical design (structures as described under Job Summary).
- Reviews geotechnical designs including design reports, drawings and construction specifications, provides comments and decides on comment resolution.
- Reviews complex geotechnical analyses and calculations, provides comments and decides on comment resolution.
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends path forward.
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data .
- Mentors geotechnical engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development . Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed.
Education And Experience Requirements
- An M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology with a minimum of 20 years of working experience in the field for Grade 28 and a minimum of 30 years for Grade 29.
- Professional registration is preferred.
- Undeniable advanced proficiency in areas provided under Required Knowledge. Should be familiar with geotechnical software (or equivalent) such as Flac, Plaxis, LPILE, Group, Slope/W, etc. Should have hands on experience in execution of large scale geotechnical construction.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Advanced proficiency in geotechnical engineering of excavations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining systems, foundations, roads, bridges, heavy buildings, tunnels and dams.
- Advanced proficiency in managing geotechnical consultants and contractors for large scale projects and types of construction listed above.
- Skilled in oral and written communication and has presentation skills.
- Broad knowledge of practices and procedures in engineering and field engineering for large scale projects.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements in large scale construction projects.
- Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and manage ambitious multi-cultural relationships across a range of entities.
