Description:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing general accounting functions, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing accurate financial statements. This role requires a solid understanding of accounting principles, particularly within the oil and gas industry, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Accounting: Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts. Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Financial Statements Preparation: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure compliance with IFRS and local accounting standards.
- Financial Reporting: Generate and analyze financial reports. Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial data.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast.
- Internal Controls: Develop and implement strong internal controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data. Identify areas for process improvement.
- Audit Support: Coordinate and support internal and external audits. Prepare audit schedules, provide documentation, and respond to auditor inquiries.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and industry-specific financial regulations. Prepare and file tax returns as needed.
- Cost Analysis: Analyze and report on cost variances. Work with operations to manage and control costs effectively.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and supervise junior accounting staff. Provide training and support to ensure the team’s effectiveness and development.
- Special Projects: Participate in special projects and perform ad hoc financial analysis as required.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with a focus on general accounting, general ledger, and financial statement preparation, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems. Advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of IFRS and local accounting standards. Understanding of oil and gas industry financial practices and regulations.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret and present complex financial data.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Languages: Proficiency in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
