Description:

This successful candidate will be motivated to study and have a keen interest in working with children, young people and families. All applicants will be required to complete an essay, to be uploaded to TURAS as part of the application process. The form and guidance is attached. This will be reviewed by staff at QMU and will inform the recruitment process.

As a SCPHN School Nurse within the School Nursing Team, the successful candidate will have a practice placement within the West School Nurse Team of NHS Borders; Peebles, Galashiels, Melrose, Lauder and Earlston. You will be supported in placement by a Practice Teacher, Team Leader and wider School Nursing Team.

During the training period and as you develop into your new role you will work closely with the multi-professional team including, AHPS, Paediatric Department, Education, Social Work, CAMHS and third sector partners. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and autonomously will be imperative to being successful in the role. There are clear lines of reporting into the management structure and support from experienced SCPHN’s and School Nurses to aid your development. You must have excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritise referrals, as well as the ability to take and act on advice and guidance from senior/more experienced staff.

For Trainees Covered By Annex 21 Where The Period Of Training Lasts For Between One And Four Years, Pay Will Be As Follows
 

  • up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
  • more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
  • more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
  • more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

Please note: the salary quoted is for full-time hours (37 hrs per week). For appointments to part-time hours, the salary will be pro-rata.
