Job Purpose:
The Principal Engineer, Mine Process Safety, plays a vital role in supporting all aspects of process safety engineering at Ma’aden’s mining operations. This includes facility siting, pressure relief and disposal, risk assessment, management of change, consequence analysis, dispersion modelling, fire protection, and risk analysis using methodologies such as HAZOP, LOPA, Event Tree Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis. The position also focuses on safety in design and evaluating management of change across all mining activities. The Principal Engineer will engage with risk owners and provide expert advice on risk management decisions related to process safety concerns.
Key Accountabilities:
- Evaluate compliance with HCIS process safety requirements and Ma’aden management systems by conducting risk management and hazard assessments, driving best practices, assessing and recommending competency and training needs, and advancing process safety culture within Ma’aden.
- Provide expert support and advice on process safety matters across Ma’aden's mining operations, organizing and leading Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies.
- Identify, report, and evaluate hazards related to mining activities, addressing them with the concerned department management to ensure effective resolution.
- Determine and track appropriate leading and lagging indicators to measure performance against targets and objectives, analyzing data to drive decision-making and improve EHS performance.
- Lead and advise EHSS management on identifying hidden risks and the actions needed to mitigate them.
- Advise Ma’aden and its Business Units (BUs) leadership teams on non-compliance issues related to EHSS management requirements, HCIS, and other legal regulations.
- Develop technical expertise in one or more sub-disciplines of Process Safety, providing training and mentorship to Ma’aden BU peers.
- Establish enhancement plans for process safety aspects and develop a performance dashboard to ensure visibility on performance metrics and facilitate necessary actions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, with a master’s degree preferred.
- Certified Mine Safety Professional.
- Certification in relevant codes and standards, such as API, ISO, IEEE, and ANSI.
Minimum Experience:
- 15-20 years of related experience, with at least 15 years in process safety.
