Job Duties
- Management of design activities and coordination of workloads for FLS design of stations, depots, and lineside facilities.
- Plan, coordinate, manage and monitor the review of FLS design deliverables including hazard and risk logs produced by the client’s design consultant.
- Coordinating, facilitating, and managing the Fire Life Safety interfaces, including 3rd party access and approvals between the contractor and other parties both internal and external.
- Managing and monitoring the 3rd Party designer’s Fire Life Safety performance with relation to schedule and cost control.
- Coordinating the review and acceptance of 3rd Party produced Fire Life Safety design documents.
- Reviews changes or deviations in Fire Life Safety design scope, material quantities, budget, or schedule, and assists particularly with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of the hours involved, and recommending budget adjustment.
- Develop emergency strategies & plans covering emergency response, firefighting, and evacuation.
- Able to use available fire engineering computer programs including dynamic modeling tools for fire and smoke analysis.
- Ensure the buildability of the proposed FLS design and suitability of materials.
- Visit the jobsite as required, to resolve problems, interpret drawings and documents and provide technical support during the construction phase.
- Coordinate with Contracts Department and Construction teams for supporting the pre-construction and procurement process.
- Provide guidance for assured design quality and compliance with the client’s requirements, design guidelines, statutory requirements, local and international codes, standards and norms, and international standards of independent firms that are carrying out the detailed design.
- Report progress, critical issues and risk to EPM design manager
Qualifications And Skills
- Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited university with 15+ years of relevant experience in FLS design management.
- Experience in managing the design/installation/operation/maintenance of FLS design for high-speed rail and mass transit rail stations, freight facilities, depots, and associated facilities/assets and have understanding of basic construction practices and the economics involved.
- Experience in both design-build and design-bid-build forms of procurement with contractors and consultants.
- Good working knowledge of the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, in particular NFPA 101 and NFPA 130 and all related and sub referenced Fire and Life Safety standards.
- Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems and design calculations.
- Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D) e.g AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel for managing design reviews
- Able to use available fire engineering computer programs including dynamic modeling tools for fire and smoke analysis.
- A professional license from a recognized licensing or registration board.
