Major Responsibilities
Support, coordinate, manage and monitor the review of Tunnel design deliverables produced by the client’s design consultant, including hazard and risk logs.
- Coordinate the response to comments raised on deliverables by the likes of subject matter experts, the design review team, the Independent Checking Engineer, and Independent Safety Assessors.
- Ensure the buildability of the proposed design and suitability of materials.
- Coordinate and visit the jobsite as required, to resolve problems, interpret drawings and documents and provide technical support during the construction phase.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, consultants, and attend project meetings from time to time.
- Coordinate with Contracts Department and Construction teams for supporting the pre-construction procurement process and the checking and assembly of the design documentation for issue as design-build or design-bid-build tender packages as required.
- Review contractor’s construction drawings, respond to technical queries and technical submittals to ensure compliance with design intent.
- Support client’s Stage Review and Approval Procedure.
- Report progress, critical issues and risk to EPM design manager
Qualifications And Skills
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in science, engineering from an accredited university or equivalent qualification with 4 years of progressive experience in tunnel design & construction for underground construction and slope stabilization projects in rock and soil.
- Knowledge of geology and structural engineering.
- Knowledge of international standards and codes.
- Experience of Rock tunnel construction and slope support including design for rock and soil slopes for cuttings, portal faces, intake and outlet structures; slope and open cut support measures including rock bolts and anchors, soil nail walls, bored piles, soldier piles and lagging, concrete retaining walls, sprayed concrete and reinforced soil.
- General Knowledge of various tunnel construction methods, including drill & blast, cut & cover, semi- cut & cover and mining methods (SCL/NATM & TBM).
- Knowledge of ground improvement methods for all types of soft ground, including groundwater drawdown, grouting, chemical grouting, jet grouting, compensation grouting and ground freezing.
- General Knowledge of Tunnel Ventilation Systems and fire life & safety designs and standards is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems and design calculations.
- Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D) e.g AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel for managing design reviews
