Description:
- Responsibilities
- Assist the Master in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel
- Responsible for the navigation and maneuvering of the vessel
- Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations and industry standards
- Supervise and train the deck crew, ensuring their competency and adherence to safety practices
- Oversee cargo operations, including loading and unloading
- Maintain accurate navigational charts, publications, and logs
- Monitor weather conditions and make necessary adjustments to route and speed
- Implement and maintain the vessel's safety management system
- Perform regular safety drills and emergency procedures
- Assist in the planning and execution of maintenance and repair activities
- Assist with inspections, audits, and certification processes
- Ensure adequate supplies of provisions, fuel, and other necessary items
- Good leadership skills with the ability to motivate and engage the deck crew
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with other departments and external stakeholders
- Strong knowledge of navigational equipment and systems
- Proficient in the use of computerized navigation systems and electronic charts
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced maritime environment
Requirements
- Valid Chief Mate Certificate of Competency (Class 2 or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in maritime operations, preferably in offshore oil & gas
- Demonstrated knowledge of vessel navigation and operation
- Strong understanding of maritime regulations and industry standards
- Excellent knowledge of navigational equipment and systems
- Proficient in the use of electronic charts and computerized navigation systems
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with team members and external stakeholders
- Ability to work at sea for extended periods and adapt to changing work schedules and conditions
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship
- Ability to lead and manage a diverse team of deck crew
- Valid STCW certificates, including Basic Safety Training and Medical Certificate
